VILLA GRIS
Situated on a sloping ‘bush’ plot with views to the Indian Ocean across vineyards and dense vegetation, Villa Gris is designed as a “micro hotel” whilst still retaining the feeling of a contemporary country house.
A high level of environmentally sustainable functionality utilising both passive and active systems create a virtually stand-alone, off-grid project.
Constructed from an innovative form of insulated tilt-up concrete and an in-situ concrete frame, the building fabric provides thermal mass which together with excellent cross-ventilation, acts to temper both hot and cold extremes of temperature.
The landscape has been terraced to accommodate a garage/studio, two (150,000 litre) water storage tanks and a lap pool. Beyond this the natural vegetation clearly dominates.
Natural finishes, robust detailing, and the small amount of controlled landscaping create a building that blends with the rugged landscape.
