KENT MINING MUSEUM
Built on the site of Kent’s last working coal mine, the Kent Mining Museum will celebrate the story of energy in Kent – from the fossil fuelled energy generation of the past through to the renewable energy generation of the present and the future.
The Museum is to be housed within the Betteshanger Visitor Centre and include interactive displays describing how coal was discovered, how it was mined and about the day-to-day lives of the miners who worked at the collieries and the communities that surrounded them.
The visitor experience commences by descending to basement level where the majority of the display takes place. Enabling a wide range of people to participate in, and learn about, the largely untold story of Kent’s rich mining heritage.
The Museum is in part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund from whom we were able to secure a substantial grant.
